Full Surrogacy Now is a no men-show created for the Perm Shpagin plant and based on the utopian novel by Sophie Lewis «Full Surrogacy Now». Sophie Lewis tears down decades of essentialist and contradictory presumptions on labor, motherhood and ownership to offer us the possibility of new ways to live with and for each other.
This is a documentary project about eight Russian citizens with experience of surrogate maternity, about their thoughts and opinions on Lewis’s concept. The performance combines real stories touching on one of the most controversial topics of the 21st century. Creating the show without a single actor, Elina Kulikova mixes video art, light design, as well as giant paraffin sculptures, which melt during the performance right in front of the audience.
